MANCHESTER UNITED have approached Paris St-Germain manager Laurent Blanc about succeeding Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
French publication Le10Sport claim Red Devils representatives have added Blanc to their shortlist of possible candidates.
Blanc, who made 75 appearances for United under Sir Alex Ferguson, is still a 40/1 shot to return to Manchester United but increased interest could see the figure shorten sharply.
The Frenchman’s contract in Paris is due to expire in June and would be eligible to join before any pre-season preparations began.
Blanc has made several references to a PSG contract extension but still hasn’t signed on the dotted line – handing United a glimmer of hope.
Jose Mourinho is another name on the shortlist, along with Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola.
However, current boss Van Gaal insists he does not feel threatened by Pep Guardiola’s declaration that he is bound for the Premier League.
Van Gaal insists Guardiola’s announcement does not put any extra pressure on his shoulders, however, as he thinks he is secure in his job despite United’s recent poor form.
“Every manager has that right to announce (he is leaving),” said the United manager, who has won just once in nine games.
“I’m at the end of my career so for me it’s not so interesting, for me (Guardiola’s declaration) is interesting how I take care of Manchester United in my contract and after this season I still have one year to go.”
