REVEALED: Mesut Ozil’s Arsenal Contract Leaked… And He Could Return To Real Madrid

The German’s move from the Santiago Bernabeu to north London is the latest transfer to be put under the spotlight by Football Leaks, with los Blancos retaining a buy-back clause.
The transfer contract of Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has been released by whistle-blowing website Football Leaks, with new details of the German’s move fromReal Madrid in 2013 revealed.

The website has published a host of documents in recent days relating to the transfers of Gareth Bale, Anthony Martial and others, and are currently under investigation by Portuguese authorities after accusations of blackmail from the Doyen Sports agency – though Football Leaks strongly denies those claims.

Now the website has put Arsenal and their club-record signing Ozil under the spotlight, with the contract revealing that the Gunners paid rather less than the reported fee.

Arsenal actually paid €44 million (£36m at the time) for the World Cup-winning playmaker – less than the £42.5m fee reported by the club – which was paid in three instalments over two years.

The Gunners also pay a further €1m every season they qualify for the Champions League for the first six years that Ozil is at the club, which amounts to €2m to date and cannot exceed €6m.

The biggest news comes in the form of a buy-back clause in Ozil’s transfer which allows Real Madrid to match any offer for the 27-year-old that Arsenal accept from a rival Spanish club.

Should, for example, Barcelona agree a fee with the north Londoners, Arsenal would then need to inform los Blancos of the terms of the deal and afford them 48 hours to match or better the offer.

Madrid also secured a pretty hefty sell-on clause that states that, should Ozil be sold for in excess of €50m (£38m) to another Spanish club, they would receive a massive 33 per cent of any profit made relative to the initial transfer fee.

The details of the deal suggest Madrid were very keen to prevent Ozil from returning to La Liga in anything other than a white shirt, while the newly revealed transfer figure means the German has cost just £857,000 per Premier League goal or assist – a bargain!
